HOW TO CHOOSE A CAREER

Everyone have different ways to choose a career. According  to wikipedia, the word 'career' in etymology ultimately derives from Latin carrus, referring to a chariot. The semantic extension whereby "career" came to mean "course of one's public or professional life" appears from 1803. The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word "career" as a person's "course or progress through life (or a distinct portion of life)". This definition relates "career" to a range of aspects of an individual's life, learning, and work. So, how do you define the career you choose ? Alot of  people end up choosing the wrong career and frustrate themselves in the process. It is ruin their professional life and also their personal life either. I think, as a person we should considering one or two things before choosing our career path. Then, how we choose it ? there are some ways or tips we can do to choose a suit career for ourself.

First, know your strengths, values, personality, and skills. Every one of us has some strengths – and some weaknesses. According to John Holland (1969), the Holland Codes or the Holland Occupational Themes (RIASEC) refers to a theory of careers and vocational choice (based upon personality types) discover your personality a vital step toward career well-being and success–job satisfaction, good grades, and graduating on time. From his theory it can be summaries that :

1. In our culture, most people are one of six personality types: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. Some refer to these as Holland Codes or RIASEC.
2. People of the same personality type working together create a work environment that fits their type. For example, when Artistic persons are together on a job, they create a work environment that rewards creative thinking and behavior -- an Artistic environment. 
3. There are six basic types of work environments: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, Conventional. "Work" includes doing things to achieve a purpose, like paid and unpaid jobs, volunteering, sports, or hobbies.
4. People search for environments where they can use their skills and abilities and express their values and attitudes. For example, Investigative types search for Investigative environments; Artistic types look for Artistic environments, and so forth.
5. People who choose to work in an environment similar to their personality type are more likely to be successful and satisfied. For example, Artistic people are more likely to be successful and satisfied if they choose a job that has an Artistic environment, like choosing to be a dance teacher in a dancing school -- an environment "dominated" by Artistic type people where creative abilities and expression are highly valued.
6. How you act and feel at work depends to a large extent on your workplace (or school) environment. If you are working with people who have a personality type like yours, you will be able to do many of the things they can do, and you will feel most comfortable with them.\

After you undertand your personality, do some activities in Learn about Yourself and Identify Your Skills to understand yourself better. Then, explore what career well-being means and how to strengthen yours.

Second, Know your options and learn about each one. Once your discover yourself, try to make your own options and try to understand it. To do that, you can learn about occupations that suit yourself. Then, make a list of it. after that, learn about education options and try to join training program that lead to your choosen career.you also cantake to career test to make sure your choice in career. A career test is aimed at assessing your skills and strengths and then suggest a career that is a good match. Once you have finished answering all the questions, you’ll be provided with 2-3 career options that suit you best and promise a satisfying life.

The last, Make a good decision. After you discover yourself and know your own options, it is time to a decision. A decision is important in order in choosing your career path. To put it up, you can read some expert expalnation about choosing a high-quality decision. Or you can also counseling your decision by take advises from other people, like your parents, friend, counselor, or people who already employed. Feel free to get in touch with these people and talk about your aspirations. Gather information about different occupations and industries. Ask them for advice that you can use for choosing a career that’s best for you.

In the end, the most important thing you do is to know yourself. So try to understand what career is your want and imagine it about 10 years or so. Considering it with your need and want you will bwcome. Then, always pry to Allah and ask Allah to lead you in the right path. That is why you will be able to coose it.
